Information about teaching RYA Personal Watercraft courses and instructor qualifications

COVID-19: If local restrictions allow, all Instructor training can return to usual delivery as detailed below.

Personal Watercraft (PW) Instructors are experienced PW drivers who have been trained and assessed to run the RYA's Personal Watercraft Proficiency Course and the Introduction to PW Safety course, which is for guests on Superyacht charter holidays.

Minimum age	16
Required certificates	First aid certificate RYA Personal Watercraft Proficiency certificate Health declaration form or medical questionnaire
Experience	At least two year's experience of driving personal watercraft
Training course	Three day course run by an RYA PW Trainer and assessed by an independent Trainer with a moderation on the third day. Candidates who are already qualified as an RYA Powerboat Instructor may attend a one day conversion course, rather than the full three day course. Recognised Training Centres offering these courses in 2021 TBC
Qualified to teach	RYA Personal Watercraft Proficiency course RYA Introduction to PW Safety course (for guests on Superyacht charter holidays)
Validity	Five years from the date of issue, provided that a valid first aid certificate is maintained.
