Safeguarding means protecting people’s health, wellbeing and human rights. It’s fundamental to high-quality health and social care and is about keeping everyone safe and taking care of their wellbeing.
While safeguarding is most commonly understood to protect children and young people, it does apply to everybody and it is everybody’s responsibility to make sure that the most vulnerable people within our society are protected from harm. Aside from children and young people, the next largest group of people that may need more support and consideration when it comes to safeguarding are vulnerable adults. This would include adults who are older and might need more support from care teams, as well as adults who have mental health conditions, learning disabilities, or physical disabilities.
The RYA Safeguarding team offers support and guidance to clubs, centres, class associations and any adults or children involved in sailing and boating. Feel free to take a look at our resources and if you are unable to find what you are looking for, please contact our team directly.
If you have any safeguarding concerns at all, you can make a referral directly to the team by submitting an RYA Safeguarding referral form.Make a referral
