OnBoard Development Day

OnBoard is the Royal Yachting Association’s grassroots programme run at over 280 clubs and commercial sailing centres across the UK for junior sailing and windsurfing. Its aim is to provide safe, fun and equal access to sailing and windsurfing for anyone aged 8-18 through a structured and progressive programme.

BOOK YOUR PLACE

Relatively new in Northern Ireland (with 4 OB centres) RYANI are aiming for more centres who are running junior programmes like Bright Night Sailing to become OnBoard (OB). Find out more at our first OnBoard Development Day!

We would like to see as many club representatives, instructors and those involved in organising/leading junior programmes to attend this first (which after this one will only be open to OnBoard Centres & aspiring OB centres).

We are excited to have Hannah Cockle, RYA OnBoard Operations officer over on the day to provide her expertise on all things OnBoard from the Sessions Cards to deliver OB Activity on the water support. The session cards are designed to support both new and experienced instructors and are packed full of ideas for engaging and motivating young sailors to improve their skills.

The cards also include lots of know-how and suggestions for activities and cover:

  • Seamanship – Confidence
  • Boat Handling – Creativity
  • Five Essentials – Independence
  • Racing – Determination
  • Double Handed Sailing – Communication
  • Sail Away – Teamwork

We will also have Tom Purdon ( Race Coach ) delivering on the water session on how to make racing attractive to OB sailors.

For Instructors of all levels to help refresh your knowledge, learn how to use the OnBoard resources and increase confidence when delivering Junior training sessions. During the day you will get to sail, instruct and practice alongside fellow instructors with support from of our OnBoard team.

We also would love to see club programme coordinators, principals, junior/youth leads and anyone interested in knowing more about how OnBoard could benefit your club.
