Job description

We’re looking for an RYA Senior Instructor with experience in tidal waters; someone fun-loving and qualified, who knows it isn’t always plain sailing but, with the ability to build rapport with children, young people and their families, can turn frowns upside down.

An energetic, positive attitude with excellent communication skills, will be needed to continue to motivate and deliver high quality experiences. Under the direction of the Activities Manager, the Chief Instructor will be responsible for the planning, delivery and supervision of safe, high-quality watersports sessions to a variety of schools, groups and individuals at our Helford River centre. They will be responsible for the delivery of our charitable schools programme. They will also work at our Trevassack Lake HQ as a lead instructor.

This is on a fixed term contract with real opportunities to progress to full time, permanent posts. The Hampshire Outdoor Centres have a reputation for excellence and professionalism as well as operating to the highest standards. Hampshire Outdoor Centres consists of four centres, three in Hampshire and one in Wales.

We are currently seeking Activity Leaders to join Calshot at the beginning of March 2025.

You will be enthusiastic, motivated and believe in the value of outdoor learning. It is essential you hold one relevant Instructor awards and have worked in a centre with some relevant teaching experience. Skill in any land or water based activity which the centres offer is advantageous, however you may have a range of outdoor activities and teaching experience, but no formal qualifications. Job description

Job description

The position on offer is that of Freelance Senior / Chief Instructor to fulfil a programme of training organised with you in conjunction with RWYC.

The successful applicant will help plan a programme of training. The basic post offers a salary of £90 half day / £150 full day. We will offer additional payments to help fulfil planning and promotion of training at the club as a stipend. The hours worked will vary depending upon the time of year but we are looking for someone with a degree of flexibility.

The successful applicant will lead on training at the club and report to the Training Principal. It is anticipated the postholder will work closely with our other employees and volunteers. 
They will encourage youth sailors to sail at Windermere and become new members of the Royal Windermere Yacht Club. The club occupies an idyllic position on Bowness Bay on the shores of England’s largest lake.

The Assistant Head of Inshore Boating is instrumental as part of a team working to support volunteers and colleagues across the UK, with a focus on our five activities of dinghy sailing, paddlesport, powerboating, rowing and windsurfing. The post will require experience of dealing with people of all ages/backgrounds, in the management of delivering activities, equipment/facilities and supporting the development of instructors.

We are looking for a passionate practitioner, with a background in delivering both on and off the water, and in-depth experience of operating procedures and governing documentation. Experience of working with young people is essential.

Job description

The primary purpose of the Marine Engineer is to deliver the maintenance and safe operation of all machinery on board the vessel. Responsibility spans the hull, structure, main and auxiliary machinery, electrical and electronic systems, fuel, water, LP air and hydraulics, and the planning and execution of off-season maintenance periods. A comprehensive level of advice and support to the onboard Engineer is provided by our two, office based, Engineering Technical staff.

Applicants should have the requisite experience and should ideally have completed an approved engine course. They should also either hold a current Seafarer Medical Certificate or be willing to obtain one.  The ability to work effectively with young people as well as the permanent and relief crew members is essential. Ship system familiarisation, child safeguarding and any necessary sea safety course refresher training will be given to the successful applicant.
