COVID-19 Information and Return to Boating

The health and safety of the boating community in Northern Ireland remains our primary concern. RYA Northern Ireland is in ongoing engagement with government officials on safely returning to activity.

The RYANI fully supports the effort against COVID-19 and we would thank the boating community for doing their part in following the spirit of the regulations and guidance. It is possible to go boating as a recognised form of activity, following the rules outlined at that time, however restrictions for certain activities are likely to remain in place and may mean activity will need adapted or may not be able to take place at this time.

The sport and leisure sector has been allowed as part of the first easing of restrictions, as such any activity should not go beyond what is outlined in this guidance. We also check other guidance in relation to relevant sectors in order to best advise members, clubs and organisations of what may be possible.

Latest Update:13th August 2021

The following update is based upon available guidance to advise the boating community of our understanding of recent announcements, guidance and Regulations. Sport and Leisure has moved through the various sub phases of Step 2 since early April.

From 8th July: the Executive has put guidance in place for large gatherings and events regarding pre event lateral Flow Device testing.

From 30th July:  For outdoor venues (including sports facilities) the Executive advises (not through Regulations) social distancing to be adhered to. Where two metres is not viable, a minimum of one metre is recommended with consideration given to other risk mitigations.

From 16th August:  Requirements on hospitality venues will change, with limitation on numbers seated removed.
